What is sensory processing disorder?
Sensory Processing Disorder, or SPD, is a condition in which the brain receives and processes information in a different way creating oversensitivity to environmental factors. This can include, but is not limited to, a sensitivity to certain types of fabrics and clothing. For a full list of symptoms and traits of Sensory Processing Disorder, read this symptoms checklist. Many children with autism also have SPD.

2. Choose a cute Halloween T-Shirt
A Halloween t-shirt could be the perfect costume for your child with autism. Rather than subjecting your little one to an itchy, oddly fitting traditional costume, order a cute, soft, kids t-shirt instead.
These are some of my favorites on Etsy :
3. Halloween pajamas
Another sensory-friendly Halloween costume is a set of pyjamas! They are more comfortable than traditional Halloween costumes and your little one will be able to sleep in them too!

Halloween tips for your child with autism or SPD
Tip 1
Let your child help select the Halloween costume.
Tip 2
Have your child try the costume on a few times before Halloween around the house. This will help make your little one comfortable wearing the outfit.
Tip 3
Don’t force your child to wear something they are not comfortable in. Everyone will end up having a miserable Halloween and it’s not worth it. Having your kiddo wear a cute t-shirt or carry a fun prop is just as fun as wearing an entire costume.
