In this post, you will find real work from home jobs that are perfect for autism moms. Whether you are looking to supplement your income with work you can do at home while caring for your child, or even looking to replace your full-time income, there is something for everyone on this list.
8 real work from home jobs that are perfect for autism moms
1. Become a blogger
I run 2 blogs and am a passionate blogger! Starting a blog enables you to write about something you are passionate about and make extra income as result while also helping others with your expertise. I have expertise in autism, recipe development, travel, personal finance, living as an expat, blogging and SEO so these are the things I write about. I have friends who blog about food, healthcare, teaching, Montessori, travel, needle felting, selling on eBay, selling on Amazon, personal finance and more. What do you love to do? Do you love spending your time gardening? Do you run a homestead? Do you love a certain craft? There is potential to make extra income in pretty much any area. Blogging is a lot of hard work and takes time to monetize but if you are interested in starting a project that you will work on over time and that will become lucrative in the future, even possibly providing passive income streams, I definitely recommend starting a blog! This is my favorite job opportunity from my list of real work from home jobs.
2. Flip items from home
I am a born entrepreneur and love the idea of preparing items to ship out from my home. This is probably part of why I started a subscription box (another work from home idea that I will save for another post when I can write about it in more detail!). Flipping items for profit at home involves going to flea markets, or shopping online, to find items to sell from your home for profits on platforms like eBay.
My friend Melissa, creator of the Flea Market Flipper website and Flipper University, created a guide that explains exactly how she and her husband stay home with their 3 kids and made over $100K the first year they started flipping items. Basically, they teach you how to find the most profitable items to sell and how to sell them for maximum profit.
Some examples of what the couple has flipped for profit :
- A door handle (bought for $8 and sold for $200)
- A double stroller (bought for $90 and sold for $380)
- An antique radio (bought for $15 and sold for $200)
- A carousel horse (bought for $175 and sold for $1299)
One of Melissa’s students says ““My brother has been buying and selling items for years. He saw how hard I was working at my current job and all the long hours I spent working instead of spending quality time with my family. He approached me one day and said I should flip items like he does so I could spend more family time with my daughter. I was a little hesitant at first, but I agreed to go check out the flea market one day. He showed me what to buy and how to dicker with the vendors to get the best price possible. I ended up spending a total of $50 on several items and made over $450 profit. I have been hooked ever since.”

3. Create a profitable newsletter
Gather a group of likeminded people around a particular topic and curate a weekly or monthly newsletter around it. Charge people a monthly or yearly fee to sign up. This is one of my favorite real work from home jobs because you can get started immediately curating content about any subject or creating your own content to share.
4. Become a freelance proofreader
Are you great at catching typos? Do you love to read? Proofreading is an excellent work at home option that allows you to combine a love for language and reading and turn it into a highly profitable business that you can do from the comfort of your own home or while traveling to and from your job on public transportation. (Imagine turning all of that time you spend on the bus or metro into a lucrative side hustle.)
- If you would like to learn more about the possibility of becoming a freelance proofreader and getting to determine your own schedule and how much you make from home, sign up for my friend Caitlyn’s free webinar all about building a business as a freelance proofreader.
5. Affiliate marketing
Do you recommend products and services you love to family and friends naturally? Do you have a website or even a private or public Facebook page? You can leverage these tools, and the communities you have built there, to generate affiliate income by recommending products and tools that you absolutely love and believe in (and would recommend anyway) at no extra cost to your community. Sounds pretty great doesn’t it?
- If you are interested in learning more about affiliate marketing, I recommend you learn from the best in the field. Michelle of the blog Making Sense of Cents has leveraged her affiliate marketing skills to earn more than $50,000 per month on her blog from affiliate marketing alone (amazing). She created an affordable course that teaches you how you can develop your own affiliate strategy and start generating revenue today no matter how big (or small) your community currently is. Her course is Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
6. Rent out a spare room or your entire home
Make extra money as a host on Air BnB. Renting out a spare room, your entire home or even a shed on your property can be a great way to boost your revenue streams. If you have an autistic child at home, it may be difficult to rent out space in your home while you are there, but why not take advantage of times when you are visiting family or traveling to make some extra income? If you have room in your garden or in a separate part of your home, you could create a space that you rent regularly.
7. Create sponsored posts
Partnering with brands to create sponsored content is one of the fastest ways to boost your income with an online business, making it one of the easiest real work from home jobs to get started.
- My friend Jenny explains how she was able to become a full-time blogger, quit her job as a teacher, and stay home with her two girls, all thanks to partnering with brands and producing affiliate income, in her course, Pitch Perfect Pro.
8. Become a food photographer
Local restaurants are always looking for quality photos for their websites and social media channels. Professional food bloggers are often willing to pay food photographers to prepare recipes and snap photos in their homes as well. Whether you have a DSLR camera or are relying on your smart phone for now, you can get started improving your food photography and charging for food photography services immediately.
- Learn to take gorgeous, professional quality photos from my friend Lindsay, the food blogger behind Pinch of Yum, and the author of the Tasty Food Photography E-Book.
As a professional blogger, these are some of the valuable tools I use to optimize my blog
- Convertkit – the service I use to host all my email newsletters.
- Tailwind – the Pinterest scheduling tool I have used to triple my traffic to my websites from Pinterest.
- Acuity – the online tool I use schedule my coaching appointments.
- SendOwl – the service that hosts and delivers my digital products that are for sale on my different websites.
