These week’s featured therapeutic game is the super sorting pie game. This color sorting game teaches colors, color sorting and helps children build fine motor strength and precision.
I heart this color sorting game – big time! It is one of my favorite games for teaching sooo many different skills.
What can my child learn using this game?
- To sort by color.
- To sort by item (oranges, grapes, apples…).
- To pick up small items with adapted tweezers – this builds fine motor strength and precision.
- To interact with you – playing a game and taking turns builds functional social skills.
- New vocabulary – you can work as such words as “orange”, “banana”, “grapes”, “red”, “green” and “orange” – to name a few – with this game. Increase your child’s verbal repertoire.
This is a color sorting game that I have been using at my learning center for years and I highly recommend it. It is easy to use and can be adapted depending on your child’s skill and language level. It is well made and the kids love it!
All of my material recommendations are based on my personal experience with children with autism and a variety of other special needs. Each material can be used in many different ways to build a huge list of skills!
You can use each item in a more general way or as part of a specially adapted program for your child.
I recommend at least one educational tool per week to help you teach your little one at home. Together, these materials form an extremely valuable collection of learning tools that will accompagny you in your home program for your child.
Last week, I wrote all about chewy tubes and I how I use them in my sessions to decrease mouthing behavior and increase functional communication and appropriate interaction.
Try the super sorting pie game and please let me know what you think!
