Is your child with autism afraid of the dark? Help make “the dark” fun by trying these 5 in-the-dark activities :
1. Watch the stars as a family.
You can also create bedroom decoration for your child using glow-in-the-dark stars on their bedroom ceiling.
Make a constellation with your child to hang in his room!
2. Sit around the fire.
Create your own family traditions.
Art project : create your own “fire” in using a shoe box and red, orange and yellow tissue paper.
3. Tell favorite (and new!) stories in the dark.
Role play / act out a story!
Create story cards (pictures, phrases, sayings…) that you hold up as you tell / read a story!
4. Musical games in the dark.
Take turns making animal sounds and listening to the animal sounds being made. Guess the animal!
Listen to different kinds of music. Guess the style of the music with your child.
5. Create shadow puppets on the wall.
An old classic! 🙂 Create a story on your child’s bedroom wall with shadow puppets.
Ask your child to help you choose a name and character traits for your shadow puppets.
