Real photo dog flashcards
You may have noticed that most of the autism activities and resources you find online use line drawings and images that look like cartoons. There is nothing wrong with these materials, however, they can be quite abstract, making it difficult for autistic learners to understand them.
I create most of my learning materials using real photos because they capture attention more easily and they are easier to understand. I think they are just prettier too, which is definitely a bonus!
How to use the free printable dog flashcards with kids with autism
- Hold up each dog flashcard and name the breed.
- Hold up each flashcard, say the name of the dog breed and and have your little learner repeat the word (“beagle”, “poodle”, “golden retriever”, etc.).
- Show each flashcard to your child or students and have them name the dog breed.
- Use the dog flashcards during table sessions.
- Include the printable dog flashcards as part of a small group activity to build social skills.
- Bring the flashcards with you to entertain your little one during wait or long car drives.
- Set up the flashcards as a cute and educational activity for siblings to do together.
