Yesterday was my birthday and I was treated to a fabulous day at the Thoiry Zoo by my wonderful husband! I was so excited! I absolutely LOVE animals and I adore spending time around them, photographing them and just observing their funny behaviors. My bucket list includes going on a safari, learning to take better photographs and starting a therapeutic alpaca farm for children with special needs.
The Thoiry Zoo is about an hour and a half outside of Paris and it is a wonderful place to visit! It is really unusual because the animals are free to roam and you drive through, as though you are on safari, to observe the animals. We took tons of photos! 🙂
Thoiry is also a beautiful French village, full of darling little shops, beautiful restaurants and lovely architecture.
I have been living in France for 14 years but sometimes I giggle thinking about how things are so different here than in the States. Taking me to the Thoiry Zoo was a surprise. The Thoiry Zoo has been on my list of places I wanted to go for about six months. My husband packed a surprise picnic and brought me to the car and we drove to Thoiry. What made me laugh was when we arrived at the gates of the Thoiry Zoo and safari and directly facing us, was a phenomenal château! That is such a French moment! 🙂 A château at the zoo! (hehe)
The Château of Thoiry
When I first opened my center Le Chemin ABA, and for several years after, I barely took any days off. So many families and professionals depended on me and I felt that I needed to always be available! Every day. Since I met my husband, 3 and a half years ago, I have allowed myself to take more time off for my family. Every year we both take our birthdays off from work and organize a day of birthday surprises. Still, playing hookie on a Thursday feels a little naughty! 😉
It was so great to have the day off together. We had so much fun! We saw so many wonderful animals : bears, elephants, giraffes, monkeys, Komodo dragons and so much more!
