My husband and I were out yesterday in the rain doing some shopping for the kids at Le Chemin ABA. We found some great neww materials and I created this airplane racing game for children with autism.
One of my greatest challenges in running my center is making sure that I am constantly updating programs and materials to keep all of the kids motivated and progressing in their learning goals. I shop for new toys and learning tools regularly and I am so lucky because my husband loves to participate. He will often have a new idea for a toy or everyday item that could be a great therapy tool. He even participates when we have weekend sessions which is pretty awesome of him!
Yesterday while we were out shopping for notebooks, art supplies, cotton balls and all other kinds of fun items for the kids, we came across these darling little airplanes on wheels. Lovely little wooden airplanes for just 1,25€! Eventhough they weren’t on my original list of items to buy yesterday, I knew I had to have them. We bought 3.
Tomorrow we will be having airplane races with the kids. The airplanes are on wheels and with very little effort you can make them roll along a table or on the floor.
This activity works fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, concentration, listening skills (the kids will have to wait to hear “ready, set, go!”), as well as social interaction and following rules (each child will have to wait for the right moment to let their airplane go).
Try this activity with your little one and let me know how it goes! ♥
