There are so many FABULOUS children’s books out there! These are my favorite bedtime stories for children with autism.
10 Best Bedtime Stories for Children with Autism

1. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd.
This one is an absolute classic and I love it! It is is probably my all-time favorite of all of the bedtime stories in this post. If your child doesn’t have a copy of this beautiful story, I highly recommend you add it to your child’s bookcase.

2. Richard Scarry’s Bedtime Stories by Richard Scarry.
This is a fabulous compilation of creative stories to help your little one fall asleep. All of the characters are adorable. The simple drawings make it easy for children with autism to understand the images and relate to them, which creates opportunities for you to work on new vocabulary with your child. This is one of the bedtime stories for children with autism that allows you to build new vocabulary skills with your child.
3. Good Night Yoga by Mariam Gates.
I adore the way this book combines stories and yoga poses to help your child calm down at the end of a busy day and prepare for relaxing, high-quality sleep. I use yoga with the children at my center and think it is a very valuable tool to help children with autism focus their energy and prepare for sleep.

4. Guess How Much I Love You (Pop-up Edition) by Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram.
This book is just so adorable! Everyone needs a copy. I love the re-visited, pop up version, of this wonderful classic. This is one of the best stories for kids with autism.bedtime stories for children with autism.
5. Eloise in Paris by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.
As a little girl growing up in New York City and dreaming of one day moving to Paris, Eloise was always a big inspiration for me!
6. If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond.
This story is so sweet and always inspires making chocolate chip cookies the next day! Find my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe here!
7. The Original Velveteen Rabbit by Margary Williams.
I adored this story when I was little and I never grow tired of reading it with the kids over and over again!
8. Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson.
This bedtime story is so clever. I love the idea of Harold drawing his city. It promotes creativity and imagination and children. Exactly my kind of bedtime story!
9. Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late! by Mo Willems.
10. Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik and illustrations by Maurice Sendak.
Little Bear is such an enchanting and darling character and it’s always great fun to experience his adventures with him before nodding off to sleep. This is one of my favorite short stories for kids with autism.
